What is the BDO Register?

The BDO Register is the register of entities placing products, packaged products on the market and managing waste. It is an integral part of the database on products, packaging and waste management, known as BDO. BDO enables the collection and management of information on waste management and is intended to allow registration, record-keeping and reporting obligations to be fulfilled electronically.

From 1 January 2020, entrepreneurs entered in the BDO Register will keep electronic waste records and submit waste reports through it.

The obligation also applies to sole proprietors.

It applies not only to large companies, but also to sole traders who generate waste other than ordinary municipal waste.

Until now, entrepreneurs signed waste collection contracts; from 2020 they will have to keep waste records and issue transfer notes in the electronic BDO system.

Huge penalties

Entrepreneurs who do not complete the formalities face an administrative penalty ranging from PLN 5,000 to as much as PLN 1 million. In addition, no one will collect their waste.

The obligation to enter the BDO Register covers not only entities that generate waste and keep records of it, but also those placing packaged products, tyres, lubricating oils, vehicles, batteries or accumulators, electrical and electronic equipment on the domestic market, and manufacturers, importers and intra-Community purchasers of packaging.
